The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), led by Commissioner KIM Wan Ki, releases its IP Education and Training Plan 2025 for international learners with an aim to expand* target audiences and incorporate a way of immersive learning through practicum/discussion sessions and study visits into training courses.

As the number of Agreements on IP cooperation signed between the KIPO and IP offices of foreign countries continues to grow, the KIPO is seeing a rise in global demand for IP education and training. In this regard, a total of 16 training courses are will be delivered to 700 trainees in 2025.

The Directorate General of Intellectual Property(DGIP) of Indonesia rolls out Joint Training Courses on ▲ IP Policy of the KIPO (IP valuation/commercialization and AI-assisted Patent Examination System) ▲ KIPO-DGIP Trademark and Design Examination between March and April to establish its IP Roadmap.
In partnership with international organizations including WIPO, UNESCO, and UNIDO*, the KIPO runs IP training courses for ▲women scientists ▲ public officials in the Ministry of Industry of developing countries ▲ IP professionals from foreign IP offices.

Since its designation as a WIPO Partner IP training institute in 2006, the International Intellectual Property Training Institute (IIPTI) has offered a variety of training courses for learners around the world every year including a KIPO-WIPO Summer School.
In addition, the IIPTI holds customized training programs for public officers from partner countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia on a regular basis, helping spreading Korea's advanced IP Legislation, Policy, Examination Systems to developing countries.
Last year, a total of 472 participant successfully completed 13 training courses: 7 offline and 6 online training. In particular, the first edition of a 'KIPO-UNESCO-WIPO Leadership Course on IP for women scientists and innovators' was held in Korea in 2024 for 22 award-winning women scientists*. Moreover, in response to requests from three Asian countries - Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand- a Joint Training Course on Design and Examination for 38 public officials from the three countries was launched online.

To provide more opportunities for education, the KIPO plans to conduct a demand survey on IP education and training for foreign IP offices and training institutes twice, in February and November of 2025. As part of its proactive administration, the IIPTI focuses on practicum/discussion sessions and study visits to encourage learners to actively participate in training as well as making educational video clips accessible on the website of KIPO ACADEMY*.
